South Suffolk

The South Suffolk was developed in New Zealand from Suffolk and Southdown. The are a full bodied animal with a dark brown muzzle and short to medium length fine "downs" type wool. The breed are

  • A good meat sheep,
  • Are easy breed to manage,
  • Ewes are very maternal, with no problems lambing,
  • Rams are easy to handle, very fertile,
  • Twins are common with triplets not unknown.

South Suffolks are an older breed, very popular with hobby farmers and schools.
